Denmark 1

Denmark 1 was created on land where Jessyjo Darling spent much of her childhood, in Denmark, Western Australia. The artwork is painted using yellow loam, orange coffee rock, charcoal and rain water all gathered from the land behind her family’s property in Denmark, WA.

Denmark 1 features several layers of built up earth in various colors and texture, symbolic of earths many layers, creating multidimensionality – teleporting you into the outer realms. This piece holds great significance as it marks Jessyjo’s first painting made exclusively with Australian pigments. Moreover, it is deeply personal, infused with the sentimental connection to the place where she grew up.
